Ergonomics and design:
The issue with ergonomics is simple if the lens is used for its intended purpose together with a medium format camera. The focusing ring is in the center, the travel of the helicoid is a little stiff. The partial revolution is 225 °. The aperture ring is switched in steps with intermediate values.
MC Volna-3 through the appropriate adapter can be installed on any small format (FF 36 x 24mm) or cropped digital SLR camera (Canon, Pentax, Nikon, Sony) while maintaining infinity. In such a combination of camera + lens, ease of use resembles working with telephoto lenses with a focal length of 180-200mm.
The design of the third Wave is reliable, all parts are metal. The only thing that is depressing is the sticky aperture, this problem accompanies most of Arsenal's medium format lenses. The aperture itself consists of six blades, respectively, at the covered values of the aperture, the blades form a hexagon, although at 4.0 the hexagon is not so characteristically pronounced.
If for a medium format lens, focal 80mm is considered normal because it gives a standard viewing angle, then at FF and even more so crop. cameras 80mm is a portrait focal length. Since the FF matrices and camera crop are several times smaller than the 60x60mm frame, only the central part of the optical scheme is used. You can see uniform, excellent sharpness across the entire frame without any drops.
Due to the uniform resolution, there is a strange impression that the aperture is covered. Wave-3 draws a sharp but low-contrast picture, in the backlight MS the layer fails, it is hard to work without a hood in difficult conditions.
